Roman Signer’s (*1938) new installation "Wasserspiel" can be discovered on the ground of the Hotel Castell. A big plate sculpture with open back wall invites to enter the sculpture. on the forefront a window is cut out, before it a water curtain flows ceaselessly, silently forming patterns. Seen through the flowing water the surroundings can only be perceived dimly, especially as a contrast of light against dark. Roman Signer‘s idea is simple but artful, rigorous but playful at the same time. this booth has got a clear geometric shape; the water play is simple but fascinating. An essential issue of Roman Signer’s oeuvre consists in the staging of the four elements. the characteristics of water, air, fire and earth are manipulated with simple but well calculated interventions in order to open up surprising aesthetic experiences.
